The Volkswagen Tacqua is available with three main powertrain options that we commonly export: the 1.2T 200TSI, the 1.5L 280TSI, and the 1.4T 330TSI. Each engine offers different characteristics in terms of power, torque, fuel economy, and driving feel.

It is a popular choice for ride-hailing drivers and small families who want modern performance without high running costs.

1.5L 280TSI Automatic
The naturally aspirated 1.5L engine is known for its reliability and simplicity. While it has the lowest power output of the three, it performs adequately for daily city use. It is less sensitive to fuel quality variations, which can be an advantage in some African markets. Real-world consumption is typically 6.5–7.5 L/100km. This variant is often chosen by buyers who prioritize durability and lower maintenance over outright performance.

1.4T 330TSI DSG
This is the most powerful option with 150 hp and 250 Nm of torque. It offers the strongest acceleration and best highway overtaking performance. Many buyers in Nigeria and Kenya who frequently travel long distances or carry heavy loads prefer this variant. Real-world fuel consumption ranges from 6.0–7.3 L/100km depending on load and driving style.

When exporting to Africa, we generally recommend the 1.2T or 1.4T turbo versions because they offer better high-altitude performance (useful in countries like Kenya and Ethiopia) and stronger torque for carrying loads. The 1.5L naturally aspirated version remains a solid choice for buyers who prioritize simplicity and lower running costs.

For CIS markets, all three variants perform adequately in urban winter conditions when equipped with proper winter tires. The turbocharged versions tend to feel more responsive in cold starts.
