Identify the installed unit and its history

Request the factory equipment record and installed head-unit identification. Ask whether the screen, USB connection or related modules were changed, and obtain the relevant work information where available. A newer-looking display is not proof of a higher factory grade. Photos from a European T-Cross cannot establish a China Tacqua system. If a seller only supplies a screen-size label, the language and connection questions remain open until the actual unit is identified and demonstrated.

Test menu language separately from phone language

Start with ordinary tasks while the vehicle is stationary: change climate settings where displayed, select audio and access the normal vehicle menus. Confirm which languages are genuinely available on this unit. A phone displaying English navigation does not prove that the car menus are in English. Do not assume that selecting a language on one related Volkswagen changes every Tacqua system. Record the working language and any remaining untranslated functions as part of the acceptance requirements.

Separate Bluetooth, projection and remote services

A successful call or music connection demonstrates that particular Bluetooth function, not necessarily smartphone navigation projection. Volkswagen describes App-Connect with compatible phones in its UK material; that explanation is not proof that any China-market Tacqua has identical hardware or activation. Identify the actual supported function, phone model and connection method. Wired and wireless operation also require separate confirmation. Remote vehicle services and their accounts are a different question from bringing phone apps onto the screen.

Perform a reproducible phone demonstration

Use the buyer intended phone or an explicitly comparable device, a suitable data cable where required, and the correct car port. Test navigation guidance, audio, call handling and reconnection after a normal restart. Charging a phone through USB does not establish a data connection. Note the phone operating system and any unmet requirement; one unrelated seller phone does not settle compatibility for your device. Keep demonstrations stationary or performed by a passenger without distracting the driver.

Evaluate a replacement before accepting it

For a retrofitted screen, ask which original functions remain supported: steering-wheel controls, parking display, camera where fitted and vehicle settings. Confirm who can diagnose the installation and whether original components accompany the car. Do not treat an unknown software unlock or promised future activation as completed work. Avoid unapproved changes solely to make a menu look familiar. A replacement can be useful, but only when its actual functionality and implications are understood rather than represented as original factory equipment.

Write a short functional handover record

List the installed unit, confirmed menu language, tested phone connection and any account or region-dependent limitation. Agree what happens if an essential function cannot be demonstrated. For a used car, include relevant replacement history; for a new stored car, check the delivered unit rather than assuming showroom examples match. If the basic car suits your needs but the screen does not, price an appropriate supported solution before purchase instead of relying on an undocumented promise after delivery.
